Although it’s been a slow start to the offseason, the Braves made a trade Thursday night, acquiring reliever Aaron Bummer for Michael Soroka, Jared Shuster, Nicky Lopez, Braden Shewmake and Riley Gowens. Soroka is a former first-round pick, but his career has been sidetracked by injuries.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com tweets that Mets beat writer Tim Healey of Newsday is the new chairperson of the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Tim will host their next dinner on Jan. 27 at the New York Hilton.

On Thursday, all Major League Baseball owners voted in favor of permitting the relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas. This decision marks the second move of a baseball team in the last 50 years. Despite lingering uncertainties about the team’s short-term prospects and stadium arrangements, the unanimous approval follows over 20 years of unsuccessful attempts to secure a new stadium in Oakland as a replacement for the aging Oakland Coliseum. Mark Bowman of MLB.com tweets that MLB has selected the Braves to host the 2025 All-Star Game. This will be the first Midsummer Classic in Atlanta since 2000.

Sources have told Jon Morosi of MLB Network that the Cincinnati Reds are engaged in discussions with three or four teams regarding potential trades involving infielder Jonathan India. The talks are currently characterized as active. Although the dialogue has advanced throughout the week, as of this moment, no deal is imminent.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was asked by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, whether he is concerned that his remarks about Giancarlo Stanton might impact the Yankees’ pursuit of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who happens to share an agent with Stanton. “I do not,” said Cashman on the matter.

1944: Mets legend Tom Seaver was born. Between 1967 and 1977, with a brief return in 1983, Seaver brought joy to Flushing fans, both those with and without sight, as he took the mound nearly every day. He consistently demonstrated his pitching prowess, often leaving non-Mets batters looking helpless. Hank Aaron himself labeled the hard-throwing right-hander from Fresno as the most challenging pitcher he had ever faced. Seaver accrued many accolades during his career, earning 3 Cy Young awards, a World Series title in 1969, Rookie of The Year, 3x ERA title, a 12x All-Star, and the first-ever Mets player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
