Good morning, Mets fans, and happy Thanksgiving!
It looks like Anthony Rendon’s disastrous Angels career may be coming to an end.
ESPN’s Alden González reported Wednesday that Rendon and the Angels are in talks about buying out the final year of his contract. González added that Rendon is expected to retire.
Rendon didn’t play in 2025 while recovering from hip surgery. He averaged just over 50 games throughout the previous five seasons. The former Nationals star has been worth a grand total of 1.7 bWAR since 2021. He’s been injured for the vast majority of his Angels career, and his performance has been sluggish when on the field, with a .242/.348/.369 batting line as an Angel. He last played in 2024, when he posted a .574 OPS over 57 games.
