Sometimes Jerry Manuel makes decisions that can really leave you dumbfounded…

Like for example, how many of you agree with the decision to bat Alex Cora in the leadoff spot again?

Or what about inserting Mike Jacobs back into the cleanup spot after a poor 0 for 4 showing on Opening Day?

It’s basically the same exact lineup for tonights game against the Marlins, with the lone difference being the pitcher John Maine.

1. Alex Cora, SS
2. Luis Castillo, 2B
3. David Wright, 3B
4. Mike Jacobs, 1B
5. Jason Bay, LF
6. Gary Matthews, Jr., CF
7. Jeff Francoeur, RF
8. Rod Barajas, C
9. John Maine, P

Also, Gary Matthews gets the nod again in centerfield, but based on his solid play in the opener, I’d say it was well deserved.

Ironically, Jerry Manuel explained his decision to go with GMJ by saying that this season, we will see him more often than not playing the hot hand.

It’s actually a great plan, but how does that explain Cora and Jacobs, who both failed to get a hit on Monday, being back in the lineup tonight and occupying prominent spots in the lineup?

In another interesting development, Manuel also stated today that Oliver Perez will be in the bullpen and available to pitch tonight if needed. Hmm… Let’s hope it don’t come down to that…
