The Mets announced that they have recalled right-hander Rafael Montero from the Binghamton Mets to make the start tonight against the Marlins. T.J. Rivera has been optioned back to the Las Vegas 51s in the corresponding move.

Montero, 25, was 4-2 with a 1.70 ERA (nine ER/47.2 IP) in eight starts at Binghamton including two straight scoreless outings. He issued 19 walks and struck out 38 for Binghamton. Montero opened the year with Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, going 4-6 with a 7.20 ERA (64 ER/80.0 IP) in 16 starts.

Montero appeared in two games in relief for the Mets in April and allowed three runs in 2.1 innings. This will be Montero’s tenth big league start and his first since April 28th of last season when he lost to the Marlins.

Rivera goes back down to the 51s despite the Mets infield being banged up at the moment. He is hitting .289/.282/.343 in 39 plate appearances so far at the big league level.
