There has been a lot of talk about Rafael Montero turning a corner and being a bright spot in a gloomy 2017 season for the New York Mets.
However, Montero has struggled in his last two starts including getting knocked around by the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night in the Mets 9-2 loss.
For the second straight outing Montero was unable to make to the fifth inning, going only four innings. In those four innings, he allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out only two, the fewest in any start he’s made this season.
It was also the second straight start that Montero allowed seven hits giving him 129 hits given up on the year in 110.1 innings.
Montero fell to 5-11 with a 5.30 ERA, 4.26 FIP, 1.72 WHIP and only 1.77 K/BB during the up-and-down 2017 campaign.
