Was Mike surprised by the team cutting Cano? From a baseball standpoint no, but from a financial standpoint…this was a pleasant surprise:
“I think you have to give credit to the Mets, Steve Cohen, and [Billy] Eppler for making the best baseball move for the team. Cano hasn’t looked good offensively, the bat is slow, he’s slow in general which has made him a bad baserunner and defender, so all Cano was bringing to the team was his clubhouse presence…I know Lindor and other veterans said that last night, but this is why Eppler brought in other veterans like Escobar, Canha, and Scherzer to have even more clubhouse leadership. Cano was considered a good presence but the Mets will be just fine with veteran leadership.”
