This week Mike and I give out our final grades for the 2023 season, discuss David Stearns’ first press conference as team President, with Buck Showalter out as Mets manager; we dive into few names that the club could target to man the clubhouse in 2024, how will Stearns handle the Pete Alonso contract negotiations, and much more!

With Stearns now officially in command, how might the search for a new manager go for the Mets? For Mike, the search will be wide, thorough, and might be relatively quick:

“We’re going to hear a ton of names connected to the Mets manager search, and they are going to interview a lot of people over the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see how the Milwaukee Brewers do in the playoffs and how that plays out with Craig Counsell, but it makes sense for the Mets to cast a wide net so Stearns can do this right. He doesn’t even really know a ton of folks within the organization yet because he wasn’t allowed to speak to anyone until the other day when he was formally hired, which is why Stearns said he would be having meetings right away with players, coaches, scouting, front office people etc so he can get a better idea of what kind of manager not only he would want but also who would fit the potential group they will have. It will certainly be interesting to see the names that will come up in the search.”
