‘Tis the holiday season and are children all over have written their letters to Santa Clause, we here at MMO decided to write our own letters to our very own Santas — Santa Steve & Sandy Claus.

What do we want for the holidays? Probably what all of you want, too.

George Springer is at the top of my wishlist. The more I think about things, the more I’d prefer Springer to Bauer. While Bauer is the most appealing name on the market, I worry that if he struggles in New York, his outspoken personality won’t translate. While the options beyond Bauer are thin, the Mets might benefit from signing someone like Jake Odorizzi and then explore the trade market for another starting pitcher. Signing Springer seems like a safer bet and would give the Mets a big bat in the middle of their lineup to pair with Michael Conforto and Pete Alonso for some firepower. And just to be greedy, I’d love to see the Mets sign Liam Hendriks. A video posted the other day of Hendricks throwing a bullpen and hearing the glove snap when he threw was enough to make me go nuts.

As much as I like Springer, I also don’t want to confront the possibility of dealing one of Nimmo, Smith, or Alonso to accommodate when I have a glut of middle/utility infielders at my disposal (just not McNeil). Trading for Lindor or Arenado would check off the marketable, exciting superstar box while also keeping the team its strongest. If I can’t have that, a pack of cigars/something to take the edge off would suffice.

Well I would like George Springer but realistically, he’s not signing until after the New Years. So a starting pitcher signed by this Friday would be nice. Preferably Garrett Richards. Count me as one of those who think he’s the next Charlie Morton. The Mets need two starters, regardless of his name being Trevor Bauer or not. Having one pitcher in the bag before 2021 begins would be great.

I’d like to have George Springer on the Mets as the perfect Mets holiday gift. While Trevor Bauer would be a great addition, Springer helps the Mets in so many ways. He’s a much-needed RH bat, and he improves defense in CF, which is a definite area of need. Adding Springer also allows Brandon Nimmo to move LF, where he is a much better defender. So, put me down for Springer, he’d be one gift, but have the effect of several.

While I agree with my colleagues on Springer being a huge get, I think the biggest thing being overlooked right now it’s that the Mets pitching is not strong and not deep. They need two starters and multiple bullpen arms. Since this is my Christmas list, I believe the Mets should sign Springer, acquire two starting pitchers, and add more bullpen arms.

Getting Springer improves the Mets defense, he’s strong offensively, and then the Mets could use one of their pieces (like J.D. Davis) in a trade for pitching.

A World Series win in the next few years, is that too much to ask for? That starts with building a World Series team.. which has already begun but needs to continue with other big signings, such as Springer, Lindor, and Bauer — players who fill voids the Mets have had, including at the plate. In all honesty, the front office has already given us a lot this year between there now being an owner who is an actual Mets fan (and cares about the fans), Sandy Alderson’s return, and someone who is qualified to be GM as the new GM.
