After hitting the skids by dropping seven games in a row, the Mets welcomed the Los Angeles Angels into Citi Field for a three-game series, hoping to turn their fortunes around.

The Angels were coming off a four-game winning streak, after sweeping the Chicago White Sox at home. The Mets sent their ace Jacob deGrom to the mound Friday night, looking to stop the bleeding.

The 28-year-old tossed seven shutout innings en route to a 3-0 victory to help the Mets break their losing streak.

The Mets would take two of three from the Angels, and in the process, cut their nine-game deficit in the National League East to seven-and-a-half as of Monday.

The next two series for the Mets come against two last place teams in the San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Both Steven Matz and Seth Lugo are currently rehabbing in the minor leagues, meaning the thin rotation will be bolstered sooner rather than later.

On Monday, David Lennon of Newsday reported that depending on how Matz’ rehab assignment goes on Tuesday night with Triple-A Las Vegas, the lefty could rejoin the team at some point this week.

The Mets are hoping to get Lugo back by the first week of June, with two more rehab starts scheduled for the right-hander.

A personal milestone was recorded on Saturday’s 7-5 win over the Angels, as Jose Reyes recorded his 2,000 career hit in the bottom of the first on a single to left.

In total, Reyes was on base four times, including three singles and a walk as well as two RBI, which proved crucial, as the Angels scored three in the ninth.

Reyes currently has the third most hits in Mets history at 1,398, and is only 20 shy of tying Ed Kranepool (1,418) for 2nd place behind only David Wright (1,777).

As always, here are your MMO Players of the Week for May 15-21.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CURTIS GRANDSON

Curtis Granderson earns MMO’s Offensive Player of the Week after slashing .353/.450/.824, with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI, two walks, and three runs scored.

Granderson drove in the Mets first two runs in last Tuesday’s 5-4 loss to Arizona, drawing a bases loaded walk in the second and hitting a solo home run in the fifth to right center-field on a 1-0 fastball off Zack Greinke. It was Granderson’s second career shot off the former Cy Young Award winner, and first since 2007 as a member of the Detroit Tigers.

The left-handed hitting outfielder also got the Mets on the board early in their 3-0 win Friday against the Angels, helping to break their seven-game losing streak. In the bottom of the first with two on and two out, Granderson smacked a 0-1 fastball off starter Ricky Nolasco down the left field line, hitting the ballboy’s stool for a ground-rule double.

Grandy added two more extra-base hits in Sunday’s 12-5 loss to Los Angeles, a home run in the fifth and double in the sixth. The double was the 293rd of his career, good for 33rd among active players, and ninth among active left-handed hitters. His fifth inning solo home run was his fourth of the year and 297th for his career, good for 10th among active players.

The veteran outfielder has done a nice job turning his season around, as the 36-year-old hit at a .128/.174/.221 clip in 86 April at-bats, compared to his .232/.328/.518 line so far in 56 at-bats in May.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: JACOB deGROM

Jacob deGrom earns MMO’s Pitcher of the Week after tossing one of his best games of the season, helping snap the Mets seven-game losing streak in the process.

The ace right-hander fired seven shutout innings against the Halos, allowing just four hits (three singles and one double), three walks, and nine strikeouts on 106 pitches. It was the third time deGrom has logged seven innings this season, compared to the three combined from Matt Harvey, Robert Gsellman and Zack Wheeler.

DeGrom worked all 1-2-3 innings from the third to the fifth on just 29 pitches, managing to keep his pitch count down, something that has hindered him in the early goings.

He was magician like in his last inning in the seventh, as he loaded the bases with no outs after surrendering a lead-off double, walk and hit-by-pitch.

With the Mets clinging to just a two-run lead at the time, deGrom proceeded to strikeout Danny Espinosa on five pitches, and on the next three pitches, retire pinch-hitter Ben Revere and Cameron Maybin to end the threat.

To date, deGrom leads the Mets in innings pitched (55.2), and strikeouts (76). He’s second in starters batting average against (BAA) behind Wheeler at .237, and seconnd in starters ERA behind Noah Syndergaard at 3.56.

Among qualifying pitchers in baseball, deGrom is third in K/9 (12.29), and has the third best swinging strike percentage at 15.3 percent.

With his nine strikeout performance on Friday, deGrom leaped over Al Jackson and Gary Gentry for 17th on the Mets all-time leaders (568).
