For the second year in a row, no Mets are participating in the Home Run Derby. Juan Soto will watch from the sidelines before starting in left field for the National League on Tuesday.

Only one of last year’s contestants will compete this evening – Junior Caminero, who was runner-up to champion Cal Raleigh. Below is the order in which the players will bat:

  1. Willson Contreras, BOS
  2. Jordan Walker, STL
  3. Jac Caglianone, KC
  4. Munetaka Murakami, CHW
  5. Ben Rice, NYY
  6. Junior Caminero, TB
  7. Kyle Schwarber, PHI
  8. Bryce Harper, PHI

This year, the event will follow a different format.

  • There is no time component in any stage.
  • In the first round, each contestant will get 20 swings. That number will drop to 15 in the semifinals and finals.
  • If a player hits a home run on their final swing, they will continue to hit until they make an out.
  • Ties will be broken by longest home run distance in the first round, and by three-swing swing-offs in the semifinals and finals.

As was the case last year, the top four players from the first round will advance to the semifinals.

  • The top qualifier will face off against the four seed, while the second and third seeds will face each other.
