Colon

The Mets and Rangers square off again on Saturday night as right-hander Bartolo Colon (8-6, 3.88) starts for the Amazins opposite Texas right-hander Colby Lewis (5-5, 5.71) in a 7:10 PM matchup.

Colon received the loss in the Mets’ 5-2 defeat to the Pirates on June 29 at PNC Park. He tossed 6.0 innings, allowing five runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk in the 82-pitch effort. Since May 17, Colon is 6-1 with a 2.20 ERA – the sixth-lowest in the majors over that span (minimum 55 innings).

Eric Campbell tied his career-high with three hits last night and extended his hitting streak to a career-best seven games. He is hitting .464 (13-28) during that stretch and has hit safely in 16 of his 18 starts, going 26-71 (.366).

Josh Edgin has retired all 22 first batters faced, a franchise record to start a season, and has not allowed a run in his last 12 outings dating back to June 5. He is holding opponents to a .095 batting average, the lowest mark among all pitchers (minimum 13.0 innings).

Dillon Gee certainly appears set to reenter the Mets rotation next week. In his third rehab start, Gee tossed six innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Friday. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking one. He threw 75 pitches.

Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Bobby Abreu – LF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Juan Lagares – CF
  7. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Bartolo Colon – RHP

The Mets and Rangers play their second game today after the Mets were able to take the first game last night. Niese got the first out, then was hit by a comebacker. The pen then came in and did a good job keeping the Mets in the game. Today Colon looks to give the bullpen the break they need after yesterday. Colon is 8-6 over 16 games this year and 106.2 innings with a 3.88 ERA. His last outing was the worse in quite a while as he allowed 5 ER over 6.0 innings, which is the first time he allowed more than 2 ER since May 12. Last year he pitched 4 games against the Rangers over 26.0 innings with a 2.08 ERA. The Rangers have the following numbers against Colon:

  • Beltre 19-70, 7 2B, 5 HR
  • Pena 11-38, 3 HR
  • Rios 10-33, 2B, 3B
  • Andrus 5-21
  • Choo 3-13

Colby Lewis takes the mound for the Rangers today. He is 5-5 over 14 starts and 75.2 innings this year with a 5.71 ERA. In the month of June he made five starts pitching 27.2 innings with an ERA of 6.18. In 5.2 career innings against the Mets he allowed 9 ER. Only four current Mets have seen him in a major league game:

  • Abreu 4-15, 2 2B
  • Granderson 0-2
  • C Young 0-3
  • Wright 0-2

Lets Go Mets!
