Yesterday was a slug fest at Citi Field. The starting pitcher for the Rangers, Martín Pérez, gave up two home runs, doubling the total amount he allowed for the season. The Mets gave up four homers, leading to the Rangers scoring seven runs, an amount the Mets could not overcome.

Now the Mets have lost four of their last five and need Carlos Carrasco to rebound this afternoon. Carrasco has pitched 81 2/3rd innings (15 starts) this season with a 4.85 ERA, 3.72 FIP, 1.335 WHIP and an 84 ERA+. Over his last two starts he has allowed 11 earned runs over 6 2/3rd innings. Looking back a bit farther, he has allowed 19 earned runs over four starts (17 2/3rd innings) which translates to a 9.68 ERA.
He has been crushed by the home run ball during this stretch. In his last four starts he has allowed seven home runs. In his 11 starts before that he allowed only three.

The Mets’ bats will try to clinch the series split today against Jon Gray. Over 13 starts and 71 2/3rd innings, he owns a 3.89 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 1.158 WHIP and a 99 ERA+. From the start of the season through June 7th, Gray made nine starts with an ERA of 5.28.
Since then he has made four starts, totaling 25 2/3rd innings, with a 1.40 ERA and a 2.19 FIP. If you were listening to the SNY broadcast yesterday, the booth mentioned multiple times how Gray has been on a tear over the last month.

The Mets reportedly placed David Peterson on the paternity list and have called up relief pitcher Colin Holderman from Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets have played the fifth-fewest home games in the National League and are the tied for the third-most road games. New York is 25-13 at home this season and 14-5 in their last 19 home games. For comparison’s sake, the Braves are tied for the most home games in the NL.
Despite the recent struggles, the Mets have still have posted a 48-30 record through the team’s first 78 games. Only the 1986 (55-23) and the 1988 (50-28) teams posted a better record through the first 78 games of the season.
Even though New York has struggled immensely with runners in scoring position recently, the team still ranks second in the majors with a .270 average in those situations.
