The Mets look to take the series this evening after a historic night at Citi Field.

The Mets threw their second no-hitter, and first combined no-hitter, in team history last night with James McCann catching Tylor Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodríguez, Seth Lugo, and Edwin Díaz. Last night’s game is an instant classic for the Mets. The scenes, sounds and all around feelings that Mets fans felt yesterday are now eternal to Mets history.

And the Mets get to play another game tonight, after all of that energy. Let’s get to it!

Taijuan Walker returns to the mound tonight! He left his first start after tossing two innings (no runs, no walks, four strikeouts) with a shoulder injury. After the game it was determined to be bursitis and Walker has responded to a cortisone shot well.

His first start was also against the Phillies. Walker gets to face them again tonight and there’s a chance, depending on what the Mets do with the double header against the Braves next week, that Walker’s next start after this one is also against the Phillies. Last season he had a 3.76 ERA over five starts and 26 1/3 innings against the Phillies. The Phillies have the following numbers against Walker:

  • Didi Gregorius 4-17, 2B, 3 K
  • Bryce Harper 3-15, 2B, HR, BB, 3 K
  • Alec Bohm 4-10, 2B, HR, 2 BB, K
  • Kyle Schwarber 5-11, 5 HR, BB, 2 K (2.318 OPS)
  • J.T. Realmuto 3-10, HR, K
  • Jean Segura 3-10, HR, K
  • Odubel Herrera 0-8, K
  • Rhys Hoskins 1-8, 4 K
  • Nick Castellanos 2-7, HR, 3 K

The Mets bats will their first 2022 look at Kyle Gibson today, who is making his fifth start of the season. Over his first four games and 23 1/3 innings he ha a 3.47 ERA, 3.70 FIP, 0.986 WHIP and a 112 ERA+. He had a strong first start of the season where he allowed two hits and no runs over seven innings against the Athletics. Since then he has a 4.96 ERA over 16 1/3 innings. In two starts against the Mets last season, he allowed four runs from 11 hits and five walks over 12 2/3 innings while striking out 12 Mets batters. The Mets have the following numbers against Gibson:

  • Francisco Lindor 15-43, 2B, 5 BB, 7 K
  • Robinson Canó 8-33, 2B, BB, 3 K
  • James McCann 6-25, BB, 6 K
  • Mark Canha 0-14, BB, 3 K
  • Pete Alonso 0-8, BB, 3 K
  • Brandon Nimmo 2-8, 2B, HR, BB, K
  • J.D. Davis 1-5, 3 BB, 2 K
  • Jeff McNeil 3-8, 2B, HR, K
  • Eduardo Escobar 2-4, 2 BB, K
  • Dominic Smith 2-5, 2B
