The Mets continue their west coast road trip after a wild series with the Padres. This past weekend the Mets lost the first two games to the first place Dodgers but then the Mets showed us the same magic they have brought all season. On Saturday they bounced back behind David Peterson to win 9-4. Yesterday they overcame a 2-0 deficit in the first inning to win a back and forth, extra inning duel to split the series. Was this a playoff series preview?

The Mets will now go from facing one possible playoff contended to another – the San Diego Padres. The Padres have had a similar weekend to the Mets as they took on the first place Brewers. After losing the first game on Thursday, they went on to win the next three games. In a way, this set of seven games for both the Padres and the Mets mimic October with both teams facing tough opponents before each other.

Carrasco shut out the Nationals his last time out on the mound, holding them to four hits and five walks but didn’t allow anyone to cross the plate. It was a good bounce back for Carrasco from the five runs he allowed to the Phillies in the start before that. The Padres have the following career numbers against Carrasco:

  • Manny Machado 2-7, 2 BB, 2 K

The Mets bats will get a look at Blake Snell tonight. Over three games and 15.0 innings, Snell has logged a 4.80 ERA, 4.07 FIP, 1.067 WHIP and an 81 ERA+. He’s coming off of his best start of the season so far, where he allowed two runs from two hits and five walks over six innings. Snell faced the Mets twice last June in back to back starts. In San Diego he allowed only a hit and a walk over seven innings while striking out 10 Mets. Then in Queens he allowed three runs from five hit sand three walks over four innings. The Mets have the following career numbers against Snell:

  • Francisco Lindor 2-20, 2B, 3 K
  • Mark Canha 3-13, HR, 2 BB, 7 K
  • Starling Marte 3-9, 2B, HR, K
