zack wheelerTonight the Mets try to take the third game of the four game set against the Washington Nationals with Mets MVP candidate Zack Wheeler (10-9, 3.38) taking on Doug Fister (13-6, 2.53). First pitch is at 7:10pm.

In his last start, Wheeler earned his 10th victory of the year against the Cincinnati Reds. He gave up one run and five hits over six innings of work, striking out six along the way. Wheeler also contributed his fourth hit of the season in that game.

Travis d’Arnaud continued his blazing hot second half last night, contributing a two RBI double in the win. He is now hitting .286 with 10 HR and 32 RBI since returning from Las Vegas.

Juan Lagares tacked on two more hits last night and stole his 13th base of the season. Nine of those have come in the last two weeks.

The Mets finally beat the Nationals in Queens last night by the score of 4-3 thanks to a big hit from d’Arnaud and pitching that was able to hold off some late pushes from the Nationals. Today, Zack Wheeler tries to keep it going against the Nationals to guarantee a series split against Doug Fister.

Wheeler is 10-9 over 29 starts and 170.1 innings with a 3.38 ERA. After terrible start against the Marlins allowing 5 runs over 4.2 innings, in his last start he allowed 1 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out6 against the Reds.
