Yesterday was vintage deGrom, right down to the Mets offense. Jacob deGrom made his long awaited 2022 debut yesterday and looked great over five innings of work. The Mets bats, who were just overloading teams the last couple of days, racking up the hits, only mustered one run. So the Mets seven game winning streak was snapped and this afternoon they’ll try to start another winning streak while taking the series from the Nationals.

Mets Lineup

Nationals Lineup

Chris Bassitt takes the mound for the Mets today. Over 19 games and 115 innings, he has a 3.83 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 1.130 WHIP and a 104 ERA+. His last start was his first rough one in a while, where he allowed four runs from six hits and four walks over six innings against the Marlins. Its worth noting that three of those runs came in the first inning and the fourth run came in the second. After that he settled in for the rest of his outing.

The last time he faced the Nationals was his first start of the season where he held the Nationals to three hits and no runs over six innings. The Nationals have the following numbers against Bassitt:

  • Nelson Cruz 4-14, 3 2B, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Alcides Escobar 4-13, 2B, 2 BB, K
  • Maikel Franco 1-5, 2 K
  • Luke Voit 2-5, 3 K
  • Cesar Hernandez 1-5, K
  • Riley Adams 0-2, K
  • Victor Robles 0-2, K

The Mets bats will get a look at a familiar face – Anibal Sanchez. Over three starts and 15 2/3 innings, Sanchez has a 7.47 ERA, 6.75 FIP, 1.660 WHIP and a 53 ERA+. His last start was his roughest one yet where he allowed six runs from six hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings against the Cardinals. Sanchez didn’t play in 2021 and in 2020 he faced the Mets twice, allowing eight runs from 10 hits over eight innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

  • Eduardo Escobar 3-26, 2B, BB, 7 K
  • Starling Marte 4-17, HR, 4 K
  • Francisco Lindor 4-14, 2B, HR, BB, K
  • Jeff McNeil 1-11, 2B, BB, K
  • Brandon Nimmo 2-8, HR, 3 BB, K
  • Pete Alonso 5-9, 2B, 2 HR, BB
  • Tyler Naquin 1-8, 2B, 4 K
  • Mark Canha 1-5, BB, 2 K
