The Mets and Marlins open a series tonight in Queens after last night’s game was rained out. It will be the first seven games in Queens to be played against the Marlins between now and the rest of the season. Two days ago the Mets were supposed to send out Jacob deGrom yesterday but it was wet, the game was delayed and why risk it, so the Mets went with Oswalt and a bullpen game and they won! Which means we get a deGrom day today! The back to back starts pushed back though probably cost deGrom a start before the end of the season.

Game Notes

Over 100 uniformed representatives of first responder agencies will participate in an on-field warning track salute prior to the game. Players and coaches will be joined by first responders from the FDNY, NYPD, and PAPD, all of whom have been personally affected by the September 11 attacks during the National Anthem which will be performed by NYPD police officer Makiah Brown.

Colors for the game will be presented by the Port Authority Police Department Honor Guard. FDNY Firefighter Regina Wilson will sing God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch. Boys and girls whose parents or grandparents have battled 9/11 related illnesses will then take the field with Mets players.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro will throw out tonight’s ceremonial first pitch. Nigro was among the thousands of firefighters at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and was appointed Chief of the department the following day. He was
responsible for overseeing all rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero and the beginning of the unprecedented rebuilding of the FDNY. The ceremonial catcher will be Mets Hall of Famer John Franco, who played a key role in the team helping New York City recover from the attacks.

The Mets have won six of their last eight games and are 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Mets are 21-14 in their last 35 games and are 33-29 since July 1. New York is 17-16 in its last 33 home games and 30-41 at home this year.

Rosario is tied for third in the NL with 12 stolen bases since the All-Star break and tied for 11th in the NL with 18 stolen bases overall. He is tied for third in the NL with eight triples.

Jacob deGrom has nine starts of six or more innings while allowing one run or fewer without getting the win. Those are the most such starts over a single season in major league history.

DeGrom has held opponents to three runs or less in 25 straight starts, tied for the longest single-season streak in major league history with the Cubs’ Leslie “King” Cole in 1910 (research courtesy of Elias). DeGrom has hurled 20
straight quality starts, the longest active streak in the majors and the longest single-season streak in team history (Tom Seaver had 19 straight quality starts in 1973).

Let’s Go Mets!
