The Mets head down to South Beach to play to forget about the last 72 hours. After beating the White Sox in the series opener, the Mets dropped two games they really could have won. Now it’s serious again as the Mets take on a division rival in the Miami Marlins.

The New York Mets began the season as the third best favorites for the World Series, but now find themselves in second place and three games back of the NL East leading Washington Nationals.

This will be the Mets’ first trip to Marlins Park since the team altered the dimensions. The deepest part of the ballpark in dead center field was reduced from 418 to 407 feet, and the walls, which had been as high as 13 feet, have been reduced to a uniform six feet all around.

New York will play 17 of its next 25 away from Citi Field. The Mets are 14-11 on the road this season.

Noah Syndergaard gets the start tonight for the Amazins. He’s 5-2 over 11 games, 10 starts and 63.2 innings pitched while striking out 81 batters and posting an ERA of 1.84.

His last two appearances have been rather interesting. On May 28th he pitched 2.1 innings while allowing two hits and striking out three before getting tossed for throwing behind Chase Utley. Then he came out of the bullpen on Wednesday to get some more work, tossing a clean inning with two strikeouts.

Since May 6th, Syndergaard has tossed 31.1 innings with 37 K’s and a 1.15 ERA. His second start of the season was against the Marlins where he allowed 1 ER over 7.0 innings of work with 12 K’s. The Marlins have the following numbers against Noah:

  • Bour 1-3
  • Dietrich 2-3, 2B
  • Hechavarria 0-3
  • Mathis 0-3
  • Ozuna 1-3
  • Stanton 0-2

Tom Koehler is 3-5 over 10 starts and 54.0 innings with a 4.50 ERA. In his last three starts he has tossed 19.0 innings with 12 K’s and a 3.32 ERA, so he’s calmed down from a few rough starts at the start of the season. Last year he was 1-2 over 5 starts against the Mets allowing 22 runs, 21 earned over 23.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Tom:

  • Wright 7-26, 4 2B
  • Granderson 5-22
  • Lagares 6-23, 3B
  • Flores 3-11, 2 2B
  • Cespedes 3-8, 2 2B, 3B
  • Walker 2-6, 2B
  • Conforto 2-7, HR
  • Loney 1-5, 2B

Let’s Go Mets!
