The Mets open a three game series against the Marlins beginning with a Labor Day matchup in Miami at 1:10 PM. Zack Wheeler (9-9, 3.44) starts for the Mets, while Henderson Alvarez (10-6, 2.75) pitches for the Marlins.
Bobby Parnell says he won’t throw off a mound until after Christmas. He will remain in Florida through the Winter rehabbing and tossing flat-ground sessions until then. The Mets closer says he’s feeling great.
Terry Collins confirms that rookie righthander Rafael Montero will make at least one major league start later this month.

He has three starts in a row where he has allowed exactly 2 earned runs (although multiple more total runs due to defense behind him) totaling to a 2.79 ERA over 19.1 innings with 20 K’s.
