jacob deGrom

The New York Mets travel to Jupiter to face the Miami Marlins on Monday. Jacob deGrom makes his fourth start of the Spring and will oppose right-hander Mat Latos. for the Marlins in a 1:05 PM matchup. (WOR 710)

In his last start, deGrom was brilliant against the Marlins. After allowing a hit to the first batter he faced, he then retired the next 14 hitters in a row, striking out six, and turning in five scoreless innings.

With Bartolo Colon picked to start on Opening Day on April 6, and deGrom and Matt Harvey to follow him, it means that deGrom would draw the home opener on April 13 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Lucas Duda is hopping mad about the notion he will platoon against lefty pitching. “It gets a little bit overplayed, I guess. It’s monotonous to hear about it. I’m comfortable facing them on a daily basis. That’s all that really matters.”

Collins quelled the growing controversy (which he started) by proclaiming Duda the everyday first baseman after Sunday’s game. “He just faced two of the best lefties in the game and went up there with a great approach,” Collins said.
