The Mets (47-53) look to build on a stellar pitching performance by Jacob deGrom from Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory and take the rubber match of the three game series from Mariners (53-47) at Safeco Field on Wednesday afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:40 PM.
Bartolo Colon (8-8, 4.12) will take the mound and face off against Mariners’ starter Taijuan Walker (1-1, 3.60). Colon has had a streaky season, first posting a 2-5 record with a 5.84 ERA (32 earned runs/49.1 innings) over his first eight starts of the year. Then he was 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA (nine earned runs/51.1 innings) in seven starts between May 17-June 24. Over last four starts dating back to June 29th, Colon is 0-3 with a 5.88 ERA (17 earned runs/26.0 innings).
Lucas Duda tied his career-high on Tuesday night with his 15th home run and is tied for fifth among NL first basemen. He has hit in six straight games, going 8-23 (.348) with a .423 on-base percentage and has reached safely in 23 of his last 25 games, compiling a .314 (27-86) batting average with a .410 on-base percentage.
Travis d’Arnaud is hitting .309 (25-81) with three home runs, 13 RBI with a .349 on-base percentage in 21 games since returning from Las Vegas (AAA) on June 24. He has at least one hit in 18 of those 21 games and has reached safely in 19 of 21 and has raised his average 50 points from .180 to .230 over the last 21 games.
Jeurys Familia has allowed one earned run over his last 18.2 innings dating back to June 12 for a 0.48 ERA. He has surrendered six earned runs in his last 42 games (43.1 innings – 1.25 ERA) dating back to April 25. He is tied for fifth in the NL with 48 appearances.
Jenrry Mejia has allowed two earned runs in his last 16.1 innings (1.10 ERA). He is 12-for-14 in save chances, including one in each of his last four appearances, since moving to the bullpen on May 12.
Noah Syndergaard fired 6.1 scoreless innings Tuesday night for Las Vegas (AAA) at Tacoma in the first game of a doubleheader. He scattered four hits, issued three walks and struck out five. On the season, Thor is 8-5, with 92 strikeouts in 91.0 innings over 18 starts for the 51s.

The Mets look to take the series tonight against Mariners. After dropping three consecutive games, the Mets were able to beat the Mariners last night thanks to stellar pitching and just enough hitting. Tonight Colon makes possibly one of his last starts as a Met as rumors have kicked up the last few days that the Mets are shopping Colon. On the season he is 8-8 over 19 games, 126.2 innings with a 4.12 ERA. He pitched 5.0 innings in his first start since the All-Star break allowing 4 ER, all in one inning in a game the Mets eventually won. He faced the Mariners three times last year logging 21.0 innings with a 3.00 ERA, striking out 15. The Mariners have the following numbers against Colon:

The Mets batters will get a look at the 21-year old Taijuan Walker tonight who is coming back for a second time this season. In his first two starts he allowed 4 ER and 7 hits over 10.0 innings. Last year he made three starts against the Mariners and he was 1-0 over 15.0 innings with a 3.60 ERA (identical to his ERA now). He has not faced any current members of the Mets.
