Winning always makes everything better, including what I’m about to tell you – happy first bullpen game of the season! The Mets will play their first bullpen game of the season tonight due to the double-header at the start of the week. Personally, I am still scarred from all of the bullpen games last year but the circumstances surrounding last year are quite different than this year. After the game yesterday, Buck Showalter said everyone is available for tonight’s game except Trevor May.

Trevor Williams will start things off for the Mets tonight. This season he has tossed 1 2/3 innings allowing four hits and two unearned runs while striking out one batter. Last year he pitched in 23 games between the Cubs and the Mets and made 15 starts with 91 innings of work. He posted a 4.35 ERA, 3.88 FIP, 1.495 WHIP and a 96 ERA+. As a Met only he pitched in 10 games, making three starts (32 1/3 innings) with a 3.06 ERA, 2.71 FIP, 1.423 WHIP and a 132 ERA+. Williams last start as a Cub last year was against the Diamondbacks where he allowed no runs from five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. The Diamondbacks have the following numbers against Williams:

  • David Peralta 5-16, 2B, 3B, HR, 3 K
  • Nick Ahmed 1-9, HR, 3 K
  • Ketel Marte 2-8, 3B
  • Carson Kelly 0-6, 2 K
  • Christian Walker 1-4, 2B, 2 K
  • Luke Weaver 1-4, K
  • Pavin Smith 1-3, 2B

The Mets bats draw Humberto Castellanos, making his second start of the season and pitching in his fourth game. So far this season he has allowed one earned run from three hits and a walk over eight innings of work while striking out seven. His only start was last weekend against the Mets where he held the Mets to one hit over four innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Humberto:
