The Mets optioned left-handed pitcher David Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reported. In his place, they recalled minor league right-hander Adonis Medina.

The news comes just a day after Peterson had a great start in the Mets’ 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. He pitched 5 1/3 innings on Friday and gave up one run, the first run he’s allowed all season. His ERA with the Mets this year is 0.64 in three games. It’s been a solid bounce-back year for him so far, albeit in a small sample size. He had a 5.54 ERA in 15 games last year.

Medina, 25, was acquired in a trade with the Pirates in April. He is yet to pitch in the major leagues. He owns a 3.75 minor league career ERA, and has pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks this season for Syracuse. He had 5.05 ERA in 17 starts last year for the Triple-A LeHigh Valley IronPigs.

The transaction comes as a depth move. Peterson will almost certainly be back with the Mets in the near future.
