Well the Mets didn’t quite put a beating on the Braves last night like the Nationals did to the Mets over the weekend, but it was close. The Mets won by the score of 16-5 last night with the Mets breaking out with 20 hits. More amazingly, the Mets had 20 hits and 16 runs with zero homers. Now the Mets have put themselves in a position to win the four game series tonight as Zack Wheeler takes on Jaime Garcia.

Wheeler is 1-2 on the season over 5 starts and 26.1 innings with a 4.78 ERA. Wheeler’s last start by the numbers may seem odd: 4.2 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 4 walks and 4 K’s. His last start was against Washington last Saturday and you may recall that last Saturday was HOT. Wheeler had strong moments in the outing but the walks ate up his pitch count and the Mets played pretty poor defense behind him making him record at least 3 extra outs. In short, Wheeler had to work his last time out. This will be his first time facing the Braves this season and the Braves have the following numbers against him:
- Freeman 7-14, 2 2B, HR
- Collmenter 0-3
- Bonifacio 0-2
- Phillips 1-2, 2B
- Flowers 1-1, HR
- Suzuki 1-2
The Mets bats will contend with Jaime Garcia today who is 1-1 over 5 starts and 29.1 innings with a 3.99 ERA. After a rocky start to the season, Garcia has settled down in his last three starts throwing exactly or about 6.0 innings in each start, allowing 3-5 hits, and exactly 2 runs in each. His season opener was against the Mets where he allowed 6 hits and 4 runs over 6.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Garcia:
- Bruce 11-51, 2B, HR
- Reyes 6-22, 2B
- Cabrera 3-8, 2 2B
- Walker 3-8, 2 2B
- d’Arnaud 2-6, 2B
- Lagares 1-4
- Granderson 1-3
The Mets are 13-4 in their last 17 games in Atlanta.
The Mets had nine doubles last night, tied for the second-most in a single-game in team history. The last time they had nine two-base hits in the same game was August 22, 2015 at Colorado.
New York tied a club record last night scoring 16 runs without hitting a home run. The only other time in team history the Mets scored 16 or more runs without a homer was June 29, 2011 at Detroit in a 16-9 victory
Let’s Go Mets!
