Today starts another big week in Mets land. The Mets travelled to Atlanta after yesterday’s crushing of the Phillies to start a four game series with the Braves. Currently the Mets have a 5.5 game lead in the division and this week is a perfect opportunity to expand the lead. The Mets and Braves clashed for a five game series a little over a week ago where the Mets took four of the five games and gave themselves the breathing room they now enjoy.

Braves Lineup

Carlos Carrasco will kick the series off for the Mets. In 22 starts and 124 1/3 innings, Carrasco has a 3.76 ERA, 3.42 FIP, 1.279 WHIP and a 106 ERA+. So far in August he has made two starts pitching 12 2/3 innings allowing five runs (3.55 ERA, 3.28 FIP) from 11 hits and two walks while striking out 15. This includes a start against the Braves where he allowed three runs over six innings of work. If you extend our look all the way out to the start of July, Carrasco has made seven starts with a 1.69 ERA.

Overall against the Braves, Carrasco has made to starts allowing three runs over 14 innings of work, scattering 10 hits and three walks while striking out 11 batters. The Braves have the following career numbers against him:

  • Eddie Rosario 12-37, 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 BB, 9 K
  • Robbie Grossman 5-15, 2 2B, 4 BB, 3 K
  • Ehire Adrianza 2-13, 4 K
  • Matt Olson 5-11, 2 2B, 2 HR, BB, K
  • Orlando Arcia 1-9, 2B, 2 BB, 4 K
  • Dansby Swanson 0-9, 3 K
  • Adam Duvall 2-8, 2B, K
  • Travis d’Arnaud 2-7, 3 K
  • Austin Riley 0-6, BB, 3 K
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. 2-6, 2B, HR, BB, K
  • Marcell Ozuna 1-6, K
  • William Contreras 2-5, HR, K

Spencer Strider gets to make another start against the lucky Mets. Strider started the last game of the series against the Mets against deGrom. After the game, Strider made comments deflecting his performance to the Mets being lucky and getting more of the calls. He’s sure to be amped tonight and the Mets batters will probably also be energized.

Over 24 games and 13 starts this season, Strider has pitched 89 2/3 innings with a 3.11 ERA, 1.97 FIP, 1.048 WHIP and a 135 ERA+. His last time out, against the Mets, he allowed four runs from six hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings while striking out 5. The performance was strikingly different than his previous time against the Mets where he held them to one run from five hits over 4 2/3 innings and his last outing raised his season ERA from a 2.79 to 3.11. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:

  • Francisco Lindor 4-7, 3B, K
  • Brandon Nimmo 3-6, HR, BB
  • Pete Alonso 1-4, 2B, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Mark Canha 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 K
  • Daniel Vogelbach 0-4, BB, 3 K
  • Luis Guillorme 1-3, 2 K
  • Jeff McNeil 0-3
  • Eduardo Escobar 1-1, 2B, BB
  • Starling Marte 0-2, K

Let’s Go Mets!
