Yesterday felt like it was going to be a typical day in 2020 – but it wasn’t!

Not long before first pitch, David Peterson was scratched due to issues with his shoulder (which were noted by the team at the end of last start). Cue 2020 dread.

Corey Oswalt was recalled for the spot start and pitched well early on, but around the 4th inning started to let a few runs score and the Mets lead that began to evaporate. Cue more dread. But the bullpen behind him was effective and the Mets had a huge 8th inning to put the game out of reach.

And now we tentatively hope they’ll get some rest, as Jacob deGrom is starting for the Mets tonight. Dating back to their last series, the Mets have won four-straight games against the Marlins. Can they push that winning streak to five tonight?

Game Notes

David Peterson got an MRI on his injured shoulder on Wednesday, which showed inflammation but no structural damage.

Stephen Gonsalves was DFA’d by the Boston Red Sox today, after they claimed him from the Mets on July 25th. According to our own Jacob Resnick, the Mets are ninth on the waiver priority list and have two spots open on the 40-man roster.

Let’s Go Mets!
