The New York Mets will look to pick up the series sweep against the Milwaukee Brewers in the night cap of today’s doubleheader, after winning Game 1 in thrilling walk-off fashion.

After the great pitching matchup that included two All-Stars in the first game, Brett Anderson will take the mound against Robert Stock in Game 2. Stock will be wearing the No. 89 and is making his Mets debut.

You probably remember Stock from his start against the Mets and Jacob deGrom in the middle of June. The Mets tagged him for five runs on four hits and six walks over four innings. He has made two starts in Syracuse for the Mets, where he has pitched to a 4.15 ERA over 8 2/3 innings.

In an earlier article before his June 16th start against the Mets, we noted how he has a sense of humor – interacting with fans on Twitter and sporting a Twitter profile picture that uses MS paint to show his current team. He throws upper 90’s and into the 100’s with a fastball that he struggles to control. The Mets need arms right now – here’s hoping they can count on his tonight.

The Mets bats draw Brett Anderson tonight, who has made 12 starts and pitched 48.0 innings this year with a 4.69 ERA, 4.83 FIP, 1.458 WHIP and an 88 ERA+. He had his best start of the season on June 15th where he allowed just one hit and a walk over seven scoreless innings against the Brewers.

He followed that up with a rough performance in Arizona where he allowed three runs from five hits and exited in the second inning with a knee injury. In the month of June he had a 5.74 ERA over four starts and 15 2/3 innings. This will be Anderson’s first start since coming off the IL.

The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Game Notes:

  • According to Jacob Resnick, Robert Stock is the 14th different starting pitcher the Mets have used this year, which is the most in a single-season since 1982. The franchise record for starting pitchers used in a single-season is 20, which happened all the way back in 1967.

Let’s Go Mets!
