The Mets (45-38) fell 5-0 to the Brewers (52-36) in the final contest of a three-game series on Wednesday evening at Citi Field.

New York’s bats fell quiet in game two of the doubleheader, as the team mustered just three hits and walked three times.

Robert Stock got the start for New York and tossed 68 pitches over four innings. The 31-year-old allowed two runs on four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. His two runs allowed came in the second after he surrendered a leadoff walk to Jace Peterson before Manny Pina homered to drive the pair in.

Drew Smith took over on the mound and threw a 1-2-3 fifth inning. He gave up a solo homer to Willy Adames in the sixth to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead. He walked one and struck out three.

The Mets had a chance for a comeback in the bottom of the sixth, as the club loaded the bases with nobody out after three consecutive walks to Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, and Jonathan Villar. Unfortunately, Francisco Lindor, Dominic Smith, and Pete Alonso all struck out in order to wash away any chance of a rally.

Miguel Castro entered in relief in the seventh and struggled with his command. He hit Jackie Bradley Jr. with his first pitch, with the center fielder advancing to second on a wild pitch. Castro then surrendered a two-run homer to Omar Narvaez and was pulled after recording just one out.

Yennsy Diaz came in to get the final two outs of the evening. He allowed a single to Christian Yelich, but worked around it with a flyout and a strikeout.

New York will play their next seven games against the Pirates, beginning with a four-game series in Queens on Thursday evening. Taijuan Walker (7-3, 2.44 ERA) will face JT Brubaker (4-8, 4.09 ERA). Walker has been one of the Mets’ best signings this season. In his last start, the 28-year-old brought home the win against the cross-town rival Yankees, with two runs allowed over 5 2/3 innings while walking two and striking out five. Brubaker took the loss in his last outing against the Brewers after allowing five runs (including three home runs) through six innings. Fans can catch the first game of the series at 7:10 pm ET Thursday on SNY or WCBS 880 Radio.
