The Mets and Brewers play two today because the weather didn’t cooperate last night at Citi Field.

About 2.5 hours after the scheduled start to the game, the Mets decided they wouldn’t be able to play after all and called it off. This may have ruined their initial plan of having Jacob deGrom pitch two more times before the break, as he would now only have three days rest before the Mets last game on Sunday.

Manager Luis Rojas did mention the possibility of still using deGrom on Sunday, pitching on short rest in an abbreviated start. But for now let’s focus on the game at hand, which is one heck of a pitching matchup between deGrom and Corbin Burnes.

DeGrom, now a four-time All Star, has pitched 14 games and 85.0 innings with a 0.95 ERA, 0.99 FIP, 0.541 WHIP, and a 402 ERA+.

He leads the league in ERA, FIP, WHIP, ERA+, H/9, HR/9, BB/9, K/9 and K/BB. Go look at his Baseball Reference page with all the bold, italics stats, its super impressive. DeGrom is coming off a rough game for him, which would be a good game for anyone else, where he allowed three runs off five hits and no walks in seven innings while striking out 14 batters. All the runs came in the first inning.

The Brewers have the following numbers against deGrom:

The Mets bats will face another All-Star from the Brewers today – Corbin Burnes.

Game Notes

  • The Mets have yet to announce a starting pitcher for Game 2 of today’s doubleheader, as they are contemplating using an opener depending on who pitches out of the bullpen in Game 1.
  • Robert Stock is expected to pitch in the second game and Nick Tropeano could pitch as well, as he is serving as the 27th man for the doubleheader.
  • Manager Luis Rojas said before the game that J.D. Davis is unlikely to join the Mets over the weekend and will instead likely stay in Syracuse through the All-Star break to get him as many at-bats as possible before rejoining the team in the second half.

Let’s Go Mets!
