jacob deGrom

After taking the first game of the weekend series on Friday, the New York Mets will try to expand their first place lead against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

Jacob deGrom (7-4, 2.42 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets and faces Braves ace Shelby Miller (5-2, 1.84 ERA) in what should be a great pitching fuel at Citi Field. First pitch is at 4:10 PM.

The Mets are 23-10 at home which is tied for the second-best mark in team history after 33 home games with the 1985 and 1988 clubs. The 1986 team was 24-9 after 33 home games.

Jacob deGrom is 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA with four walks and 44 strikeouts over his last five starts dating back to May 16. The Mets are 5-0 in those starts. DeGrom is sixth in the NL in ERA (2.42).

Note: Jeurys Familia will stay active — not on paternity leave. Probably unavailable today though. The Mets closer became a father last night to Jeurys Familia Jr. Congrats to him and his fiance.

The Mets can make it a streak tonight! The Mets are coming off of two wins in a row and have a chance to take the weekend series with the Braves as they send out Jacob deGrom in a face-off with Shelby Miller. Last night the Mets received effective pitching from Bartolo Colon as he picked up his 9th win of the season, and some timely offense including Wilmer’s 10th jack of the season and Mayberry’s 3rd.

Jacob deGrom is 7-4 with a 2.42 ERA over 12 starts and 78.0 innings while striking out 81 batters. In his last 5 starts he is 4-0 (the Mets are 5-0) as he has tossed 36.1 innings with a 1.24 ERA and 44 strikeouts.

He hasn’t faced the Braves yet this season but last year he was 2-1 in 3 starts over 18.0 innings with a 2.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts. The Braves have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Freeman 1-7
  • Simmons 1-8
  • C Johnson 5-8, 2B
  • Bethancourt 0-7, 3 K
  • K Johnson 0-1

The Mets bats draw Shelby Miller who is 5-2 over 12 starts with a 1.84 ERA and a league leading 2 complete game shutouts in 78.1 innings. He started off June with by far his worst start of the season, allowing 4 ER over 4.1 innings, but rebounded in his last outing allowing only 1 ER over 7.0 innings.

The last time Miller faced the Mets was in 2013 where he tossed 11.2 innings over 2 games allowing 4 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against Miller:

  • Duda 2-6, HR
  • Mayberry 0-5
  • Cuddyer 3-3, 2B
  • Tejada 0-3
