The New York Mets open a four game home-and-home series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday at Citi Field. The first two games will be played in Flushing while the final pair takes place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard (2-4, 4.15) will get the nod tonight and will oppose the veteran southpaw Mark Buehrle (7-4, 4.25) for the Jays at 7:10 PM.

Syndergaard, of course, was acquired with Travis d’Arnaud, John Buck and outfield prospect Wuilmer Becerra on Dec. 17, 2012, for then-reigning NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey and catchers Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas.

The Mets overcame an 8-3 deficit to beat the Braves yesterday. The last time New York came back from a deficit of five or more runs was September 22, 2011 at St. Louis.

New York has 16 come-from-behind wins this year, tied for the fourth-most in the majors. The Mets won a game where they allowed at least eight runs for the first time since August 8, 2011 in New York’s 9-8 win against San Diego.

The Mets are 9-0 all-time vs. the Blue Jays in New York and have swept all three series vs. Toronto in the Big Apple (1997, 1999 and 2001).

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Juan Lagares – CF
  2. Ruben Tejada – 3B
  3. Michael Cuddyer – LF
  4. Lucas Duda – 1B
  5. Wilmer Flores – SS
  6. John Mayberry Jr. – RF
  7. Dilson Herrera – 2B
  8. Kevin Plawecki – C
  9. Noah Syndergaard – RHP

Coming off a surprising win, the Mets open up a series with the offensive minded Blue Jays in Queens tonight. Yesterday the Mets were down early, as much as 8-3 at one point, but they rallied and ended up winning the game 10-8 (despite getting only 3.2 innings from their starter). The surge in offense locked up a series victory for the Mets as they look to handle a team tonight that has been crushing the ball.

Noah Syndergaard will get the start against his prior organization tonight. He is 2-4 over 6 games and 34.2 innings this season with 34 strikeouts. June has been rough for Thor as he has pitched a total of 10.0 innings allowing 20 hits and 11 ER (but still striking out 12). This will be his first major league game against the Blue Jays and he has not faced anyone in the Jays organization in a major league game.

The Mets will get to see an old foe from that one season of the revamped Miami Marlins tonight in Mark Buehrle. He is 7-4 this season over 12 starts and 78.1 innings with a 4.25 ERA plus 88 strikeouts and leads the league in complete games at 3. The month of June has been quite good to Mark as he has tossed 15.0 innings allowing only 2 ER. The last time he faced the Mets was back in 2012 where he was 0-3 in 4 starts over 26.2 innings with a 4.39 ERA. The Mets have the following numbers against Mark:

  • Cuddyer 35-110, 11 2B, 3 HR
  • Granderson 5-26, 3 2B, HR
  • Mayberry 3-18, 2B
  • Duda 3-7
  • Tejada 1-6

Lets Go Mets!
