Houston Astros vs New York Mets

Yesterday’s Game – Michael Conforto continued his hot start, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored en route to beating the Tigers 5-2 Sunday. Matt Reynolds had a good day at the plate as well going 2-for-3, while Dominic SmithJose ReyesAmed Rosario and Tomas Nido each had a hit and drove in a run.

Right-hander Paul Sewald started the game in place of Chris Flexen who was a late scratch with a sore right knee. Sewald tossed two scoreless innings and allowed just one walk. Addison Reed pitched a scoreless inning, LHP David Roseboom tossed two scoreless and struck out two, and new addition Ben Rowen showed off his funky side-arm delivery with a scoreless inning of his own.

World Baseball Classic – The Mets will have 11 players depart for this year’s World Baseball Classic. Xorge Carrillo (Mexico), Gavin Cecchini (Italy), Jeurys Familia (Dominican Republic), Ty Kelly (Israel), Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico), Brandon Nimmo (Italy), José Reyes (Dominican Republic), René Rivera (Puerto Rico), T.J. Rivera (Puerto Rico), Hansel Robles (Dominican Republic) and Fernando Salas (Mexico) are all scheduled to participate. Ricky Bones will be the pitching coach for Puerto Rico.

Today’s Game – The Mets play their first of six games against the Houston Astros today, four of which will be played at First Data Field. LHP P.J. Conlon will get the starting nod as the Mets wrap-up their three game homestand. RHP Hansel Robles, LHP Tom Gorzelanny, RHP Corey Taylor, and RHP Logan Taylor are all expected to pitch as well.
