The Mets (7-9) were defeated by the Yankees (8-9) tonight at George M. Steinbrenner Field by the score of 6-3.

Pitching:

Steven Matz got the start for the Mets and got off to a rough start, as the young lefty was tagged for five runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking two in four innings pitched.

Despite getting off to a rocky start, however, Matz retired the last eight batters to face him.

Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless fifth inning, but Duane Below allowed the Yankees to push across their sixth run of the game in the sixth inning.

Zack Thornton and Paul Sewald were able to stymie the Yankees the rest of the way, as they combined to pitch 2.1 scoreless innings.

Offense:

The Mets were kept off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when Neil Walker drove in a run with a groundout, and Yoenis Cespedes added another by hitting a ground-rule double. The outfielder is now hitting .419 so far in the Spring.

In the eighth inning, the Mets were able to cut the deficit to 6-3 when Ty Kelly walked with the bases loaded, but this would be the last of the scoring, as the Yankees were able to hold on and seal the victory.

Despite scoring only three runs, the Mets had many opportunities as they scattered twelve hits in the game.

On deck:

The Mets travel to Florida Auto Exchange Stadium tomorrow afternoon to face the Toronto Blue Jays, where Bartolo Colon will take on Aaron Sanchez. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 PM.
