The New York Mets (53-50) were defeated tonight by the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field by a score of 7-2.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon toed the rubber for the Mets this evening on three day’s rest, and didn’t fare too well, getting touched up for five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.

The Mets gave Colon an early 2-0 lead, but the veteran righty gave the lead back in the fourth inning.

Trevor Story singled to score Nolan Arenado, and was promptly driven in on a two-run shot from David Dahl.

DJ LeMahieu drove in two more in the fifth with a single up the middle to make it 5-2 Rockies at the time.

Colon was relieved by Seth Lugo, who pitched three innings, allowing two runs (both on sacrifice flies in the seventh), which gave the Rockies a very commanding 7-2 lead.

Offense:

The Mets scored early in the game, scoring once in the first and once in the second with contributions from Wilmer Flores and Kelly Johnson but it’s all they could muster up, as the Rockies took their third straight game from the Mets.

The Mets almost had another run in the ninth, but the original call of a home run by Wilmer Flores was overturned. It wouldn’t matter much anyway as this one was decided early on. What a weekend to forget.

The Mets did slightly better tonight with RISP, going 2-for-5 and leaving four on base.

The bad news of the game came with Yoenis Cespedes, still nursing that quad, leaving tonight’s game with the injury. More to come as the news pours in…

On deck:

The Mets will look to salvage the final game of the series against the Rockies tomorrow, as Noah Syndergaard (9-5, 2.45 ERA) takes on Chad Bettis (9-6, 5.19 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
