USP MLB: MILWAUKEE BREWERS AT MIAMI MARLINS S BBN USA FL

Update – 11:39 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians have agreed in principle on a trade that would send Jonathan Lucroy to the Indians for four prospects.

Three of the players heading to Milwaukee are highly regarded catching prospect Francisco Mejia, shortstop prospect  Yu-Cheng Chang and outfield prospect Greg Allen.

The fourth player is expected to be one two pitching prospects: left-hander Justus Sheffield or right-hander Triston McKenzie.

Jon Heyman calls Mejia the deal’s centerpiece and a gem, “a switch-hitting 20-year old catcher who has a big-time arm and had a 42-game hitting steak this season.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Indians are one of the eight teams on Lucroy’s no-trade list, but no one has formally approached him about waiving his no-trade clause yet.

Buster Olney of ESPN expects Lucroy to get some compensation out of the deal given his below market contract.

Update – 2:15 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Mets have increased their offer to the Brewers for Jonathan Lucroy to three players that includes Travis d’Arnaud, Brandon Nimmo and a pitching prospect.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post confirmed the offer and cited a source who says the Brewers are very fond of Nimmo and his inclusion in any deal would make a lot of sense.

Matt Ehalt of The Record hears that two Mets pitchers the Brewers really like are right-hander Seth Lugo and 2015 5th rounder left-hander Thomas Szapucki.

Original Report – 10:00 AM

As per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets appear more likely to add Jonathan Lucroy than Jay Bruce” href=”https://https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bruceja01.shtml”>Jay Bruce as the Reds asking price for Bruce is too high right now.

With the Mets need to add offense, they appear to be all-in on Lucroy, but at this juncture, the Mets are unsure where they stand in trade discussions.  The team is still unsure about whether the Brewers would accept Travis d’Arnaud as the centerpiece in a possible deal.

Further complicating matters is the fact that the Brewers seem to want to trade each of their coveted trade chips in separate deals. This would limit the Mets ability to make a blockbuster that could include either Jeremy Jeffress” href=”https://https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jeffrje01.shtml”>Jeremy Jeffress or Will Smith” href=”https://https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/smithwi04.shtml”>Will Smith.  According to ESPN’s Pedro Gomez, the Mets are seen as a long shot to obtain Lucroy at the trade deadline.

The Mets are also facing some competition from the Indians, who are trying to replace their injured catcher Yan Gomes” href=”https://https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gomesya01.shtml”>Yan Gomes. The Red Sox and their deep farm system are also rumored to be interested in Lucroy as well.

Finally, Buster Olney chimes in and says this about the Mets: “Growing confidence within the organization that they might have the best offer on the table for Lucroy”.
