The New York Mets were edged out by the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and failed to notch his 15th win after Darin Ruf connected on a three-run homer in the first inning. Colon settled in after that, but the damage was done. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walked none and struck out three in five innings of work.

Jon Niese made his first relief appearance of the season in preparation for a potential postseason bullpen role. He allowed one run on three hits while in 1.2 innings while striking out one. He’ll have to do better than that…

Carlos Torres worked a scoreless eighth inning in his first appearance in nine days.

Offense:

Two words… Lucas Duda. The Mets first baseman continued his offensive barrage with two more home runs tonight, his seventh multi-homer game of the season, matching Dave Kingman in 1976 and Carlos Delgado in 2008 for the franchise record. Amazing. He has 15 RBIs in his last three games.

On Deck:

The Mets continue their three-game series against the Phillies on Wednesday with Logan Verrett (1-2, 3.40) starting in place of Steven Matz. He will oppose Alec Asher (0-5, 7.52) for the Phillies. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
