The New York Mets (4-5) defeated the Cleveland Indians (4-4) by a score of 6-5 in the first game of their series on Jackie Robinson day.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon (1-1, 2.13 ERA) did not have his best stuff on the night but still was able to provide 5.1 innings of decent pitching to pick up his first win of the season. Big Sexy did his job as he allowed just two runs on eight hits. He struck out five while only allowing one walk.

Antonio Bastardo entered in the sixth with one out to relieve Colon with runners on second and third. He escaped the jam with ease by striking out Jose Ramirez and then getting Rajai Davis to fly out to end the inning. Bastardo would face four batters in total, retiring all four before being relieved by Hansel Robles with two down in the seventh. Robles allowed a hit and a walk before striking out Yan Gomes to end the inning.

Addison Reed came on to pitch a six out save, but was unable to complete the task. Reed was cruising before Carlos Santana hit two-run bomb to get the Indians within two. Jeurys Familia was summoned to get the one out save. He allowed a leadoff hit to Gomes and then a bloop to Marlon Byrd. A walk to former Met, Juan Uribe put the winning run on first before Familia was able to get Ramirez to popup to end the ballgame for his third save of the season.

Offense:

The offense has come alive, for a night at the very least.

The offense was rolling on all cylinders tonight as the Mets received contributions from almost everyone in the lineup. Michael Conforto, finding himself in the three hole for the first time this season hit a bomb over the center field fence to put the Mets up early. Yoenis Cespedes, Neil Walker and Alejandro De Aza all hit shots of their own that left Progressive field.

Conforto, Céspedes, Walker and De Aza combined to go 10-for-19 on the night while producing 5 Runs, and 6 RBI. The Mets came into the game having hit only two homers the entire year. Today they hit 4, tripling their season total in one night.

Each Met collected at least one hit on the night except Travis d’Arnaud, whose struggles continue as he bats a team low for a regular position player at .087.

Notes:

The Mets entered the night having only hit two homers total on the young season. They tripled that number tonight with four being hit, for a total of six on the season.

The kings of queens saw a much needed resurrection of the offense as things could possibly be turning for the better for a team that has struggled out of the gate. Panic Citi can rest easy for the night as the Mets moved to one game under .500.

On Deck:

The Mets go for the series win tomorrow in the middle game of the set with a start time of 4:10 PM.  The Dark Knight, RHP Matt Harvey (0-2, 4.63 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets and he is opposed by Indians RHP, Josh Tomlin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who is making his season debut.
