jacob degrom

Jacob deGrom has been placed on family medical emergency list related to an issue with his newborn son Jaxon, the team announced.

According to Terry Collins, “there were complications” with the baby. He did not say if it was life-threatening, but added: “We are all praying and pulling for him.”

The Mets right-hander could remain on the list for anywhere between 3-7 days. Eric Campbell has been activated.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jacob, Stacey and especially Jaxon.

Previous Report – April 16

It now appears that Jacob deGrom will not make Tuesday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

He will likely be placed on the disabled list sometime this weekend.

DeGrom threw a 25 pitch bullpen session on Friday, but the team doesn’t believe he’ll have enough time to ramp up in time for Tuesday’s start.

A DL stint would be backdated to April 8, when deGrom last pitched, and right-hander Logan Verrett would replace him once again in the rotation.

Rubin believes Eric Campbell will be recalled to replace deGrom on the roster.

Additionally, Terry Collins said that deGrom did have an MRI on his sore lat muscle this week.

Original Report – April 15

According to a report by Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, Jacob deGrom will not rejoin the Mets during their weekend series in Cleveland. Instead, the right-hander will attempt to throw a bullpen on Friday at the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie.

DeGrom, 27, has not thrown since he was removed from his last start because of tightness in his right lat muscle.

Ackert says that Mets general manager Sandy Alderson approved the change in plans so that deGrom can spend more time with his wife Stacey and newborn son Jaxon at their Florida home. while commuting to the Mets’ complex.

The Mets are being very cautious with deGrom in hopes to avoid what happened to left-hander Steven Matz last season. Matz came back too early from a similar lat strain and ended up with a partial tear and missed over two months in 2015.

A decision will be made after today’s bullpen on whether deGrom will make his next start or if he lands on the disabled list. Any DL stint will be backdated so he’ll only miss five days, but the team won’t have to play short a man in the meantime.
