The Mets (72-78) were defeated by the Washington Nationals (85-63) by a score of 3-0.

What you should know:

Jon Niese pitched a solid game for New York, going seven innings, and allowing two runs on six hits while walking zero and striking out seven. Unfortunately, he took the loss as he had no offensive support.

The Mets had runners in scoring position in six separate innings, including two times with a runner on third and less than two outs, and were unable to push a run across each time.

The big blow for the Nationals came in the top of the seventh, as Wilson Ramos launched an opposite field two-run home run off of Jon Niese.

Washington tacked on an additional run in the top of the ninth, as Danny Espinosa was caught in a rundown between first and second with two outs and one on. When Espinosa was tagged, Wilmer Flores dropped the ball causing the runner at third to score.

The Mets have committed 31 errors in their last 23 games.

With today’s win, the Nationals are now 13-3 against the Mets this season.

On deck:

The Mets start a three game series with the Marlins tomorrow night at Citi Field with Jacob deGrom (8-6, 2.62 ERA) taking on Jarred Cosart (13-9, 3.70 ERA)
