The New York Mets snapped their 14-game winless streak with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs to wrap up their spring training on a high note.

Left-hander Steven Matz started for the Mets and turned in his best performance of the spring, firing five no-hit innings and walking two while striking out six batters. Over his last two starts, Matz allowed just one run and one hit in 9 2/3 innings.

Sean Gilmartin followed Matz in the 6th and the Cubs jumped all over him, quickly loading the bases with a single a double and a walk. Gilmartin than walked the next batter on four pitches to score Tommy La Stella for the Cubs only run of the game.

The first Met run came after Curtis Granderson reached on an error, allowing Michael Conforto to race home and score. In the top of the 3rd, Yoenis Cespedes blasted his first home run of the spring, a solo shot to left-center.

The biggest hit of the game came off the bat of Ty Kelly who walloped a three-run homer in the 8th after Alejandro De Aza singled and Travis d’Arnaud walked.

The Mets would score two more runs in the 9th when T.J. Rivera and Eric Campbell hit back-to-back homers to make the score 8-1.

Jeurys Familia then ended the game with some flair by striking out the side in the 9th.

On Sunday the games count!
