The Mets beat the Chicago Cubs for the second straight night by the score of 7-3 at Citi Field.
Jon Niese started and pitched impressively, holding the Cubs to three runs in six-plus innings, scattering seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Niese got the victory and now has back-to-back quality starts after a rough return from the DL.
Vic Black bailed Niese out by coming in and getting three huge outs after inheriting the bases-loaded with nobody out in the seventh.
Wilmer Flores made a great diving play in the field and then in bottom of the second stroked a line-drive single to score Matt den Dekker and Juan Lagares whose ground rule double scored Travis d’Arnaud.
The Mets scored four more runs in the sixth keyed by a bases loaded walk to den Dekker and two more runs scored when Chicago center fielder Arismendy Alcantara dropped a drive by Lagares in right-center.
The Mets only had four hits in the game but managed a seven-spot in this one. Lucas Duda walked three times tonight, tying his career-high, done three other times, last, May 4 earlier this year at Colorado.
One big note, David Wright came out fo the game in the sixth after he was hit by a pitch in the back. He initially ran the bases, but then came out of the game. The Mets announced he had posterior shoulder soreness. Wright said he was unconcerned.
Up Next: Rafael Montero (0-3, 6.12) will make his second straight start since returning from the minors as the Mets look for their third straight on Sunday at 1:10 PM. Righty Jake Arrieta (6-4, 2.77) will go for the Cubs.
