The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5-4 at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie courtesy of a walk-off home run by shortstop Matt Reynolds..

Today was all about Matt Harvey Day and the Mets righthander was nothing short of brilliant as he tossed two perfect innings against the Tigers and struck out three in his first game action in 18 months. Harvey was dominating from the start and didn’t hold back, firing a few 99 mph fastballs and showing off his improved lethal curve.

Noah Syndergaard was a little shaky after Michael Cuddyer botched a pickoff throw and a passed ball by Travis d’Arnaud, but recovered and completed two innings allowing two hits, two walks and two runs.

Jeurys Familia was a little rusty and while his run was unearned, he did allow two hits and walked a batter. Vic Black allowed the other Tiger run with a somewhat wild inning allowing a walk and a hit but going to three ball counts every time you looked up.

Curtis Granderson opened the scoring for the Mets with an RBI single to bring home Juan Lagares who had singled ahead of him.

Matt den Dekker hit a clutch two-run double in the bottom of the seventh, to plate Brandon Allen and Cesar Puello.

So with the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Matt Reynolds ends it with a jack to left center to give the Mets the victory and send everyone home smiling. The Mets mobbed him at home plate. Carlos Torres picked up the win in relief.

Notes:

Terry Collins estimated Lucas Duda will take batting practice Monday and play in a game for the first time next Friday.

Alex Castellanos (bruised right middle finger) and Daniel Murphy (right hand contusion) were both hit by pitches and headed for X-Rays.

On Deck:

The Mets play a pair of split-squad games on Saturday, hitting the road against the Marlins and hosting the Braves at home. Steven Matz will start against Miami, while Jacob deGrom gets the nod at home against Atlanta.
