The Mets won the nightcap of tonight’s doubleheader against Arizona, beating the Diamondbacks by the score of 4-2 at Citi Field.
Making a his first start of the season, Daisuke Matsuzaka gave the Mets a much needed solid effort, allowing just two earned runs in six innings of work. Dice-K changed speeds and hit his spots, holding the D’Backs to just three hits and a walk while striking out six and improving his ERA to 2.33 on the season.
The bullpen was solid, featuring a scoreless seventh by Carlos Torres, while Jeurys Familia and Josh Edgin combined for a scoreless eighth.
After pitching the ninth in the first game of the doubleheader, Jenrry Mejia earned a save with a scoreless ninth in the second game. It was the third save of the season for Mejia who has locked onto the closer role for the Mets.
Anthony Recker was the offensive star of the game and collected four hits including a double and a run scored. Daniel Murphy also had a big game with three hits, a walk and an RBI, and Bobby Abreu started in right and chipped in two hits and an RBI.
Lucas Duda left two more runners on base in a pinch hit appearance and has left 16 runners in the series while going 0-for-12.
Injury News: Eric Young Jr. could be heading to the DL with a pulled hamstring and Matt den Dekker will be recalled from Las Vegas to replace him if that happens.
Up Next: On Monday, Ike Davis returns to Citi Field as the Mets open a three-game series with the Pirates at Citi Field at 1:10 PM. Jacob deGrom (0-2, 2.77) will make his third big league start for the Mets and will be opposed by Brandon Cumpton (0-1, 4.26) for the Bucs.
