The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks by a score of 4-2 in today’s game at Citi Field.
Offense:
While the Mets’ bats were quiet early against Arizona’s starter Patrick Corbin, they exploded for three runs in an exciting 5th inning.
Lucas Duda belted a solo home run for the team’s first run of the game. The home run was Duda’s 12th of the year.
Following a walk by Eric Campbell, Matt Harvey hit a two-run blast to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. It was Harvey’s first career home run, and the second by a Mets’ pitcher this season.
In the 6th inning, Ruben Tejada added an insurance run with a solo home run of his own.
Pitching:
Harvey rebounded nicely today after a disappointing outing in his last start against the Dodgers. He allowed a two run home run in the first inning to David Peralta, but he dominated Arizona for the rest of the game.
During seven solid innings, he struck out nine and allowed only five hits and two runs.
Today’s impressive outing lowered his ERA to 3.07 and improved his record to 8-6.
Bobby Parnell and Jeurys Familia both pitched scoreless innings in relief to seal the victory for New York. The save was Familia’s 26th on the season.
On Deck: Jon Niese will get the start tomorrow against Rubby De La Rosa at 1:10 PM. The game will be televised on WPIX. It is the team’s final game before the All-Star break.
