marlins win recker

The Mets lost in gut-wrenching fashion as they fell to the Miami Marlins by a score of 4-3 Monday night at Marlins Park.

On a night when Jon Niese tossed seven scoreless innings and handed the bullpen a three run lead, Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed the Marlins to score three runs to tie the game, before they won it in the ninth on a walk-off single off the leg of Gonzalez Germen.

It was an outstanding 108 pitch effort by Niese who lowered his ERA to 1.82 on the season. The hard throwing lefty allowed just five hits and a walk while registering six strikeouts.

Kyle Farnsworth got out of a huge jam in the eighth inning when he relieved Dice-K. Nice job by the veteran who stranded runners on second and third and got all three outs…

Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson accounted for two of the Mets runs with a solo home run each, while Bobby Abreu drove in the third run with a sac fly.

Grandy went 2-for-4 and continues to heat up, hitting .391 on this road trip. David Wright went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Omar Quintanilla started at short and committed a key error while going 0-for-3. Travis d’Arnaud went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and saw his batting average fall below the Mendoza line at .195 for the season.

Niese was locked in tonight, too freaking bad!

The Mets will try and shake this off and try to even the series on Tuesday night at 7:10 PM as Bartolo Colon (2-4, 5.65 ERA) takes the mound against Henderson Alvarez (1-2, 3.28 ERA) for the Fish.
