The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins by a score of 13-2 on Monday at Tradition Field. I know, I know, you would have preferred I used words like “mauled” or “demolished” in that opening line…

It all looked good for Zack Wheeler after a perfect first inning, but things completely unraveled in the second and he ended up allowing six earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. He was pulled with the bases loaded and was charged with two hits, two walks and one hit batter while striking out three when all was said and done.

Chase Bradford relieved Wheeler allowing all three inherited runners to score and then allowing two more runs to score on top of that. Sean Gilmartin got tagged for three more Marlins runs, while Jenrry Mejia allowed one earned run. In all, 13 earned runs off Mets pitchers.

On offense, there wasn’t much obviously, but I gotta say that Matt den Dekker is really making a dog fight out of the 5th outfielder job with Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is having an equally solid spring so far. MDD went 2-for-2 today with with a triple and 2 runs scored in the loss.

Gavin Cecchini drove in a run with an RBI double but was tagged out when he thought about taking third. Curtis Granderson hit a sac fly to score den Dekker.

Travis d’Arnaud told reporters he expects to play tomorrow.

On Deck: The Mets travel to Orlando on Tuesday to play the Atlanta Braves. Bartolo Colon gets the start for the Mets.
