The New York Mets (15-8) were defeated by the San Francisco Giants (13-13) by a score of 6-1 in the finale of a three game set.  The Mets snapped an eight game winning streak on what was a rainy, dreary day at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard wasn’t his best on a rain soaked day in New York Sunday afternoon, as he was not able to keep the Mets winning streak alive.  He allowed four runs in five and two third innings, giving up five hits, and walking two. He would have three stolen bases against him.  The word is out.  You can run on Syndergaard.  This is something that has become an obvious issue in the early onset of the season and bears watching.

Antonio Bastardo came on in the seventh and was shaky himself.  Bastardo gave up a run in an inning of work.

Logan Verrett gave up a HR to Buster Posey in the eighth and Jerry Blevins would come in and pitch a clean inning in the ninth.

Offense:

The Mets offense was non-existent today as Madison Bumgarner did a excellent job of shutting the team down.

The Mets loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Asdrubal Cabrera would get hung up on a third strike that looked completely off the plate according to the replay.

The Mets tried to get back in the game again in the bottom of the seventh when Juan Lagares lead off with what appeared to be a leadoff triple.  A fan interfered with the ball and Lagares was forced back to second.  David Wright singled him in anyway to bring in the Mets only run for the day.

Juan Lagares and David Wright both had solid days going 2-4 with a walk a piece.

Notes:

Curtis Granderson, Lucas Duda, and Asdrubal Cabrera would all sit out against the tough lefty today.

The Mets snapped an eight game winning streak and will now fall to one and half back of the Nationals in the division as the Nats swept the Cardinals. .

On Deck:

The Mets will open up a three game set with the Atlanta Braves tomorrow night at Citifield.  The game has a start time of 7:10 PM.  Bartolo Colon (1-1, 3.42 ERA) will look to get the Mets back on track.  The Braves starter has not yet been officially announced.
