bartolo colon

The Mets lost the the Cardinals tonight by a score of 12-2 at Busch Stadium.

Bartolo Colon struggled mightily in his first start back from the break. He allowed seven runs and eight hits during 4.1 innings.

It was an uncharacteristic outing for the 42 year old veteran as he walked three batters, which is a season high.

Colon’s record now drops to 9-8 on the season and his ERA has climbed to 4.86 in 109 innings.

The bullpen was also infective in relief of Colon. Most of the damage was given up by Alex Torres, who allowed four runs to score, including a three run blast by Randal Grichuk.

The Mets bats were quiet all night against John Lackey, who allowed only one run in seven innings.

Michael Cuddyer had a productive night in his return to the lineup. He collected three hits, and he belted his eighth home run of the season. Ruben Tejada also had a RBI double in the 8th, but the game was already way out of reach by this point.

On Deck:

The Mets will look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow at 2:15 PM. Jon Niese will start for New York, and he will face rookie starter Tim Cooney. The game will be televised on SNY.
