“A little roller up along first… Behind The BAG! It gets through Buckner! Here come’s Knight and the Mets WIN IT!!!” ~ Vin Scully

Caught this at the end of a David Wright article by Andy Martino on the Daily News:

Ray Knight, the 1986 World Series MVP for the Mets and now a radio broadcaster for the Nationals, said in a WFAN interview Wednesday that he has felt shunned by the organization in recent years.

“I’ve never been able to get anybody from the Mets to really call me,” Knight said. “I get invited to the big events, but the Mets have just never treated the players the way the other clubs do. Detroit, Houston, Cincinnati, I always get notes, cards, stuff, from them. I never get anything from the Mets.

“I don’t know what I did to the front office. I always tried to be a professional and comport myself with class. But I’ve never had anybody act as if it mattered.”

Knight added that his departure from the Mets as a free agent after the ’86 championship season — he wanted a two-year deal, while they offered one — hurt him “immensely.”

“I never felt that they wanted me back,” Knight added. Former teammates Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Bob Ojeda are current members of the SNY broadcast team, while others (Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson, etc.) have been on the coaching staff in recent seasons.

Wow, that’s pretty sad if it’s true. We also don’t know if this is how the Mets treat all their former players or is this an isolated incident?

I mean do the Mets send birthday cards to Ron Swoboda or Mike Piazza (or Bobby Bonilla) every year? Is this what teams do?
