Triple-A: Buffalo Bisons (72-65) 3, Syracuse Mets (57-82) 5 Box Score

Syracuse scored five runs on six hits as they downed the Buffalo Bisons Friday.

The Mets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Dom Smith home run in the first inning. Smith’s been red-hot of late going 9-for-18 with two home runs in the series thus far.

The game would stay tied 1-1 until the eighth inning when Daniel Palka crushed a grand slam to put the Mets up 5-1. The home run was Palka’s first since August 27.

Joey Lucchesi was solid for 2.2 innings in a rehab appearance, his first in Triple-A, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Tylor Megill followed up Lucchesi and allowed a run on two hits and a walk. After a strong start to his rehab, Megill has now allowed six runs in his last 1.2 innings in Syracuse.

Drew Smith was the third pitcher to make a rehab appearance, striking out one in a perfect inning.

Jose Rodriguez would eventually earn the win, his second of the year, holding Buffalo scoreless for three innings. The 27-year-old right-hander has pitched well since the start of August allowing just six earned runs in his last 28.2 innings.

Double-A: Hartford Yard Goats (75-60) 0, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (53-81) 6 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies scored six runs on eight hits in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Hartford Yard Goats.

Ronny Mauricio was the story in this one. He cracked a three-run home run in the first inning, drove in another run with a single in the third, and added an RBI triple in the eighth. Mauricio finished with five RBIs while falling a double shy of a cycle.

Tony Dibrell was excellent as he earned his second win with Binghamton this year. The 26-year-old right-hander struck out six while allowing just one hit over six shutout innings. Dibrell has a 1.88 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 14.1 innings so far in September.

Joe Zanghi closed out the shutout victory, striking out five over the final three innings.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 5 Box Score

The Cyclones’ season came to an end with a one-run loss to the Aberdeen IronBirds in the rubber game of the SAL North Division Championship Series.

Stanley Consuegra gave Brooklyn a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the fourth inning. The 21-year-old outfielder would later add a home run in the sixth inning.

Jose Peroza cut Aberdeen’s lead to one run with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his second of the series. However, the Cyclones would come up a run short as the IronBirds advanced to the SAL final.

Junior Santos took the loss, allowing five runs over 4.2 innings. The 6-foot-7 right-hander was solid for the first four innings before he was tagged for four runs in the fifth.

Brooklyn’s bullpen was solid in relief of Santos. Mike Vasil and Nolan Clenney combined to pitch 3.1 shutout innings while striking out nine.
